Jeff Bezos, the owner of Blue Origin, filed a complaint on Monday; this decision came about when NASA appointed Space X for a multi-billion-dollar contract. The contract was to transport humans to the moon. Space X belongs to Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos’s main competition. Musk has decided to respond to the complaint through social media.

Blue Origin’s accusations are many since they cover a whole 50 pages and they were presented to the government accountability office. The 50 pages contained accusations on NASA for moving goalposts for the companies campaigning for the $2.9 billion lunar lander contract to transport astronauts to the moon the earliest it can start is 2024 and the contract was handed to Space X.

Blue Origin accuses NASA of executing a flawed acquisition for the human landing program. They moved the goalposts in a last-minute rush to award the contract.

Blue origin had partnered with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Draper in a move to design the space ship in the hope of winning the contract and this is proved by the statement they gave people ‘ in NASA own words it has made a high-risk selection .’

Blue origin and its partners have stated that NASA’s decision to award the contract to Space X has many negative impacts. It has discouraged opportunity for competition ,narrowed supply base that leads to delays .And lastly endangers Americas visit to the moon ; which was the main reason they filed the complaint with GAO.

The LG company has decided to exit the smartphone business. This decision came up because the company wants to focus its full attention and resources on steadily growing markets like robotics, Artificial Intelligence, connected devices, electric vehicle parts, digital platforms, and services.

LG has issued a statement regarding their phones still in stock, in that they will still remain on sale and will get support from LG for a period of time but this depends on the region.LG is sure their move will be complete by the end of July this year.

LG is leaving the market because of a number of reasons ;

Huge losses

The renowned South Korean tech Inc has made losses of around 4.5 billion US dollars in the past 5 years.

Competition from other brands

Existent brands like Apple, Samsung, and new brands like Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, Huawei have erased LG from the best top three smartphone makers list in the market. Though still, popular LG has the lowest sales in the market.

Ways computer vision will shape the future of retail

Published

Computer vision or Vision AI can transform a company’s customer experience. This next-generation technology has made retailers begin to experiment with applications that help customers change their shopping habits and help them evolve.

Computer Vision works by detecting an image, processing it, and classifying or understanding the idea to build an AI data system. AI then takes actions depending on the understanding of the data system.

Vision AI can be applied in retails in the following ways:

  • Cashierless

Suppose you have heard of Amazon Go, a revolutionary tech in grab-and-go stores that allow for automated payments, no scanning products, and stopping in lines. Customers select whatever they want and walk out of the store.

Cameras are installed to track all the customers’ movements, and when they select an item, Computer Vision figures out the things taken while the cameras watch the customers’ movements and interaction with the retail shelves.

  • Customer data for business intelligence

Any business decision is founded by the data collected from customers. Vision AI makes it simpler to collect data. Computer vision uses facial recognition to identify a customer’s persona based on their in-store activities and purchase patterns.

Vision AI allows customers to create maps for stores, helping them understand which displays attract other retailers and which don’t. It becomes convenient for retailers as it helps them position products quickly.

  • In-store advertising

Computer Vision has developed a vision face detection that allows retailers to identify a customer’s face and anonymously recognize their person.

Stores that display their digital signage can similarly use facial recognition technology, as it is a game-changer.

  • Theft prevention

Globally, shoplifting and employee theft have cost retailers a lot of money. Since most traditional security cameras have blind spots, the store is hectic, and the staff strained, it leaves room for thieves.

Vision AI teaches systems to recognize and monitor suspicious activity making this process easy.

Cameras get trained to detect any malicious movements and alert the staff immediately hence reducing the hours’ retailers spend trying to ensure that their stores are safe with the merchandise.

Similarly, retailers can replicate the process to detect compliance errors immediately.

  • Cleanliness and protection

Computer Vision can monitor human activity and at the same time keep track of hand-to-surface movements and interactions.

Public areas surface areas get touched by many people, but with Vision AI cameras, retailers can continually monitor customers hand to surface interactions. The cleaning staff immediately gets notified, and the surface gets disinfected.

Self-driving cars are the future and are safe

Published

on

techstart kenya

Self-driving cars are becoming a reality even though they are still being developed. Still, our modern-day vehicles contain a few automation attributes, and this thanks to technology. Self-driving cars are just that self-driving as they drive themselves. They are a great innovation that has ever been proposed and it has a lot of benefits that is on both the environment and people’s lives.

Prevent accidents

Most car accidents that have happened are attributed to human error like drunk driving, drivers being distracted; self-driving cars are fitted with great computer systems, which is a sure way to eliminate human errors.

Well accessible

Self-driving cars are amazing, especially when driving in areas with poor infrastructure like poor roads; these cars also come in overlapping or overtaking, which leads to traffic snarl-ups.

Environment-friendly

Self-driving cars are likely going to be electric, thus no combustion engines. This guarantees no emission of fumes in the environment when driving. There no acceleration and braking mode of driving will ensure a clean environment.

A safe mode of transport

If you do not enjoy driving, but like going places, a self-driving car is an option for you as the car will drive you to those places, those with disabilities and the elderly can still get into a self-driving vehicle and will not cause a risk to other commuters or motorists.

Ease traffic; self-driving cars communicate with each other in that cars will communicate on how to travel effectively at an optimized distance from each other and even suggest different routes for vehicles to take to avoid overlapping or traffic snarl-ups.
